Facial Acne Scars
SkinPen is cleared to improve the appearance of facial acne scars in adults aged 22 and older. Acne-scar treatment is commonly planned as a series.
Professional SkinPen® microneedling for facial acne scars, uneven texture, enlarged-looking pores, fine lines, neck wrinkles and gradual skin remodeling.
SkinPen microneedling is best suited to gradual improvement in skin texture, enlarged-looking pores, fine lines and mild-to-moderate facial acne scarring through the skin’s natural remodeling response.
One treatment can make sense for general skin quality or for someone who wants to start conservatively. More established texture and acne scars usually make more sense as a series. SkinPen is not our first choice when the main goal is brown-spot removal, visible vessels or redness, significant skin laxity, or deeper scars that may benefit from a stronger resurfacing approach.
Microneedling is usually considered when the goal is gradual improvement in skin texture, scarring, pore appearance or early textural aging. The provider will determine whether SkinPen, laser, peels, PRF or another option better matches the goal.

SkinPen is also cleared for the appearance of neck wrinkles in specified Fitzpatrick skin types.
Clients may discuss SkinPen when roughness, mild textural aging or uneven-looking skin texture is a priority.
Microneedling may be discussed when enlarged-looking pores are part of a broader texture or skin-quality concern.
For early fine lines or mild crepey texture, the provider may compare SkinPen with laser resurfacing, peels or other options.
Microneedling is not an instant filler or resurfacing shortcut. The goal is gradual improvement as the skin responds and remodels.
SkinPen uses a sterile disposable cartridge containing fine needles that move rapidly to create controlled microscopic punctures in the treatment area.
As these microscopic channels heal, the skin goes through a natural remodeling process. Treatment depth is selected according to the treatment area, concern, skin condition and provider assessment.
A new disposable cartridge is used for each treatment.
Depth is selected according to the treatment area and skin assessment.
SkinPen is mechanical microneedling. It does not use radiofrequency heat or laser energy.
Visible change occurs over time as the treated skin remodels.

Treatment begins with a skin and medical-history review. The exact process may vary depending on the treatment area, concern, numbing needs and provider assessment.
We review your concerns, current skin condition, medical history, medications, previous treatments and healing history.
The treatment area is cleansed and a topical anesthetic may be used to reduce discomfort.
The provider selects an appropriate depth and moves the device systematically across the treatment area.
You receive guidance regarding cleansing, skincare, makeup, exercise, sun exposure and the expected healing response.
Responses vary by treatment area, settings and individual healing. The following is a general guide rather than a guarantee.
The skin may appear flushed and may feel warm, tight, tender or sensitive.
Redness, dryness, rough texture, tightness, itching or mild sensitivity may continue.
Mild flaking, scaling or roughness can occur while the treated skin settles.
Results are not immediate. Visible improvement develops gradually over time.
SkinPen does not fill scars or erase pores immediately. The goal is gradual improvement in the appearance of the treated skin as remodeling takes place.
Acne-scar improvement frequently requires a series. The depth and type of scarring influence whether SkinPen, fractional laser, another treatment or a combination plan is more appropriate.
These treatments work differently. The right choice depends on the concern, current skin condition, treatment intensity, downtime and whether the main issue is scarring, texture, pigment, fine lines or overall skin quality.
Method: Controlled mechanical microneedling.
Often considered for: Facial acne scars, pore appearance, uneven texture and gradual skin remodeling.
Healing: Common responses include redness, sensitivity, dryness, tightness or peeling.
Method: Microneedling combined with radiofrequency heat energy.
Often considered for: Firmness, deeper remodeling goals and selected texture concerns.
Note: SkinPen is not RF microneedling. We explain the difference if you are comparing options like Morpheus8.
Method: Uses fractional laser energy.
Often considered for: Texture, selected scars, fine lines and stronger resurfacing goals.
Healing: May involve more visible redness, roughness or surface healing depending on the settings.
Method: Uses selected peeling agents to treat the surface layers of the skin.
Often considered for: Dullness, congestion, superficial pigment and mild texture concerns.
Note: Peels and microneedling are not the same. The better starting point depends on the skin.
If texture, enlarged-looking pores, mild-to-moderate acne scarring, fine lines or general skin quality are the main goals, SkinPen is a very reasonable starting point when you want gradual collagen remodeling without radiofrequency heat or laser energy.
One treatment can make sense for general skin quality. Acne scars and more established texture usually make more sense as a series. If deeper scars or stronger resurfacing goals are the priority, we may recommend fractional laser or another approach rather than simply selling more SkinPen sessions.
If microneedling is not the best match for your skin, we may discuss another treatment based on whether the concern is texture, pigment, redness, acne, dullness or deeper resurfacing.
A website cannot determine candidacy. The provider reviews your health history, medications and treatment area before proceeding.
SkinPen should not be performed in several circumstances identified in its patient labeling.
Other conditions may require additional evaluation or may make treatment inappropriate.
Choose the SkinPen appointment that fits the area you want to treat. Your visit still begins with a skin and medical-history review so we can confirm candidacy before treatment. If another option makes more sense for your goals, we will explain why.
