What We Treat

Scars & Stretch Marks

Treatment planning for Delray Beach, Boca Raton and nearby Palm Beach County

Scars and stretch marks can differ in age, depth, color, texture and how the skin healed. We evaluate the individual area before recommending fractional laser, SkinPen microneedling, a color-focused treatment or a different medical referral.

The goal is usually to make a mature scar or stretch mark less noticeable—not to promise complete removal. Raised, painful, itchy, thickening or keloid-like scars may require physician-led treatment outside the services offered on this page.

Different Concerns Require Different Plans

A scar is not defined by the word “scar” alone

The treatment decision depends on whether the concern is flat, depressed, raised, discolored, recently healed or mature—and whether it is a scar or a stretch mark.

Mature surgical or traumatic scars

Once fully healed, selected flat or uneven scars may be evaluated for improvement in texture, blending and visibility. Location, age and the surrounding skin all matter.

May be considered for resurfacing or microneedling

Depressed or textural scars

Indented or uneven scars may require a collagen-remodeling approach. Depth and scar structure influence whether SkinPen, fractional laser or another referral is appropriate.

Texture-focused planning

Red or discolored scars

Sometimes the most noticeable feature is color rather than texture. A light- or laser-based option may be discussed separately from treatment designed to remodel the scar.

Color and texture may need different treatments

Stretch marks

Stretch marks are a form of scarring that can develop when skin stretches or shrinks quickly. Newer red or purple marks can behave differently from mature white or silver marks.

Age, color and depth affect the plan
This page focuses on selected mature surgical or traumatic scars and stretch marks. Active acne and acne scarring require their own assessment because the scar pattern, inflammation and treatment timing may be different.

Realistic Expectations

Improvement is possible. Complete erasure is not a responsible promise.

Scar and stretch-mark treatments are generally intended to make the area less noticeable by improving selected aspects of color, texture or depth.

A single area may require a series, and the final result depends on the age and type of scar, treatment settings, skin tone, healing response, sun exposure and aftercare.

Some scars respond meaningfully. Others improve modestly. A consultation allows us to explain what appears realistic before you commit to a treatment plan.

How We Choose a Starting Point

We evaluate the scar before choosing the device

The same technology should not be applied automatically to every scar or stretch mark. We first determine what part of the concern we are trying to improve.

1

Review the history

We ask how the scar formed, how long it has been present, whether it has changed, and whether it is painful, itchy, raised or continuing to thicken.

2

Identify the main feature

The plan may focus on depth, surface texture, redness, brown discoloration or the overall contrast between the scar and surrounding skin.

3

Match treatment and downtime

We compare the likely benefit of SkinPen, fractional laser or a color-focused option with the amount of healing time and number of sessions the client can realistically manage.

Before Treatment

Timing and scar behavior matter

Cosmetic scar treatment is considered only after the skin has healed sufficiently and the area can be evaluated safely.

Fully healed does not always mean fully mature

Scars can continue changing for months. The best timing depends on how the scar formed, where it is located and whether a surgeon or treating physician has given instructions about when cosmetic treatment may begin.

Do not apply active products, exfoliants or home devices to a healing scar unless specifically cleared by the clinician managing the wound.

  • Scar age and stability The area should be closed and healed, without drainage, crusting or ongoing wound care.
  • Raised or keloid-like behavior Thick, expanding, painful or itchy scars may need physician-led treatment rather than routine resurfacing.
  • Skin tone and discoloration risk Treatment type and settings should account for the risk of temporary or persistent pigment change.
  • Sun exposure Recent tanning or unavoidable sun exposure may affect treatment timing and aftercare.
  • Area and daily friction Clothing, exercise, shaving and repeated movement can affect healing on certain body areas.

When Medical Evaluation Comes First

Some scars should not begin with an aesthetic procedure

A scar that is open, infected, draining, rapidly thickening, painful, persistently itchy, extending beyond the original wound or otherwise changing should be evaluated by an appropriate medical professional before cosmetic treatment.

Keloids and some raised scars often require a different treatment category. We would rather recommend medical evaluation than apply microneedling or resurfacing to an area that is not an appropriate cosmetic-treatment candidate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Scars, stretch marks and realistic treatment planning

Can a scar be completely removed?

A responsible treatment plan aims to make a scar less noticeable by improving selected aspects of texture, depth or color. Complete removal cannot be promised, and some scars improve more than others.

Are stretch marks actually scars?

Yes. Stretch marks are a type of scarring that can develop when skin stretches or shrinks quickly. Newer red or purple marks may respond differently from mature white or silver marks.

Is fractional laser or microneedling better?

Neither option is automatically better. Fractional laser may be considered when stronger resurfacing is appropriate, while SkinPen offers a non-light-based collagen-induction approach. Scar type, skin tone, body area and acceptable downtime influence the recommendation.

How many treatments will I need?

Scar and stretch-mark treatment commonly involves a series, but the number cannot be determined responsibly without seeing the area. Size, depth, age, treatment type and healing response all matter.

Can you treat a recent surgical scar?

The area must be fully closed and sufficiently healed. Timing varies, and the surgeon or clinician who managed the procedure may need to clear the area before cosmetic treatment begins.

Do you treat keloids?

A raised scar that grows beyond the original wound may be a keloid and usually requires physician-led evaluation and a different treatment approach. Routine microneedling or fractional resurfacing is not automatically appropriate.

How much does scar or stretch-mark treatment cost?

Pricing depends on the size and location of the area and the treatment selected. View fractional laser pricing or view SkinPen pricing. The exact plan is confirmed during consultation.
