Our Assessment

Where RF makes sense.

RF microneedling is worth considering when the main concern is skin texture, certain atrophic acne scars or mild textural aging, and a clinician believes the added thermal energy is appropriate. It is not automatically better than SkinPen, fractional laser or another treatment. Scar type, skin tone, recovery tolerance and safety considerations determine the choice.

Treatment Goals

What clients consider RF microneedling for.

These are potential cosmetic goals—not promises or proof that RF is appropriate for every type of skin concern.

01 / TEXTURE

Acne-scar texture

Some shallow, depressed acne scars may improve with a series. Deep ice-pick scars and tethered scars often need a different or combined approach.

02 / SKIN SURFACE

Uneven texture

For selected roughness and textural changes where controlled remodeling may help the skin look more even over time.

03 / AGING

Fine lines

May be discussed for early textural aging and fine lines; deeper folds and significant laxity are different problems.

04 / PORES

Visible pores

Improvement in the appearance of enlarged-looking pores may occur, but pores cannot be permanently closed or erased.

05 / FIRMNESS

Early laxity

Selected mild firmness concerns may be considered. RF microneedling is not a surgical lift and should not be sold as one.

06 / TREATMENT PLANNING

Combination goals

When scars, texture and discoloration coexist, RF may be only one part of a treatment plan—or not the best first step.

Where we would look elsewhere first

Brown spots, visible blood vessels, pronounced redness or significant loose skin usually call for a different assessment. For example, IPL is generally a more targeted option for selected superficial pigment and vascular concerns, while fractional laser may be a better fit for certain resurfacing goals.

The Technology

Microneedling plus controlled heat energy.

Traditional microneedling makes controlled punctures in the skin. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy through the needles, creating localized heating in tissue at selected depths.

That additional energy changes both the treatment and its risk profile. It does not make RF the default choice for everyone. Settings and treatment depth need to be selected by an appropriately trained clinician based on the area, skin condition and medical history.

01
Assess first

Review the scars or skin concern, medical history, skin tone, previous procedures and recovery expectations.

02
Perform the procedure

After cleansing and appropriate preparation, the clinician uses sterile, manufacturer-appropriate treatment tips and settings selected for the individual.

03
Allow time for recovery and remodeling

Redness and sensitivity may follow treatment. Any cosmetic improvement develops gradually and varies between patients.

Compare Your Options

RF, SkinPen or fractional laser?

Different treatments use different mechanisms. The best choice depends on the problem—not which device sounds more advanced.

No RF Energy

SkinPen Microneedling

Method: Mechanical microneedling, without radiofrequency heat.

Consider for: Selected acne scars, texture and gradual remodeling.

Important: May be a suitable starting point when RF is unnecessary or not appropriate.

Fractional Laser

Method: Fractionated laser energy targets selected layers of skin.

Consider for: Certain scars, texture changes and resurfacing goals.

Important: Pigment risk and downtime depend on the laser, settings and skin.

Appointments are coordinated in advance, subject to clinical suitability and provider/equipment availability. Other services and add-ons are not included unless expressly stated.
Recovery & Expectations

What happens after RF microneedling?

Visible reactions and recovery times vary by treatment intensity, skin characteristics and treatment area. This is general guidance—not a guaranteed timetable.

Day of treatment

Warmth & redness

Flushing, tenderness, mild swelling or a sunburn-like sensation can occur.

Next few days

Skin settling

Redness, dryness, roughness, sensitivity or temporary pinpoint marks may persist; some patients need longer.

Following weeks

Gradual change

Any improvement in texture or fine lines is typically progressive, not an immediate post-treatment result.

Longer term

Review results

Provider follow-up helps determine whether additional treatment is warranted or a different approach is preferable.

Candidacy & Safety

RF microneedling is a medical procedure.

An individual assessment is essential. The procedure is not appropriate for every person, every skin condition or every treatment area.

When treatment may not be appropriate

Device labeling identifies important contraindications. For example, RF microneedling may not be appropriate with:

  • A pacemaker or certain active implanted electronic/metal devices
  • Pregnancy
  • Clotting disorders
  • Certain unidentified skin diseases or active problems in the proposed treatment area
  • Body piercings or metal in the area unless properly assessed

What we need to know first

Tell the treating clinician about:

  • History of keloids, abnormal scarring, pigmentation changes or poor wound healing
  • Active infection, cold sores, inflammatory breakouts or irritated skin
  • Blood thinners, immune-affecting medicines, recent isotretinoin or other relevant medications
  • Recent sun exposure, skin treatments or injectable procedures
  • Your skin tone, medical history and any previous treatment complications
Patient safety note. The U.S. FDA has reported serious complications from certain uses of RF microneedling, including burns, scarring, fat loss and nerve damage. Discuss the benefits, alternatives and potential complications with a properly trained licensed healthcare professional before proceeding. Read the FDA safety communication.
Frequently Asked Questions

RF microneedling, explained.

Is RF microneedling the same as regular microneedling?
No. Both involve microneedles, but RF microneedling also delivers radiofrequency heat energy into tissue. SkinPen is mechanical microneedling without RF energy. The right option depends on your concern and risk profile.
Can RF microneedling help acne scars?
Some types of depressed acne scars may improve in appearance after treatment, often with a series. Scar type matters. Deep or tethered scars may be better addressed through other approaches or a combined plan. Improvement is not the same as eliminating scars.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no responsible universal number. Some goals may be evaluated after one session, while more established acne-scar texture often warrants discussion of a series. Your clinician will explain why repeated treatments may—or may not—be useful.
Does RF microneedling tighten loose skin?
It may be considered for selected early firmness or fine-texture concerns, but expectations should remain modest. Significant skin laxity, heavy jowling or excess skin generally will not be corrected by RF microneedling.
Is RF microneedling safe for darker skin tones?
Suitability depends on individual skin characteristics, treatment settings and the clinician's experience. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and other complications remain possible; no skin tone should be promised risk-free treatment.
What RF device is used at Dash?
We plan scheduled RF microneedling treatments using Secret RF by Cutera. The specific device and treatment date are confirmed when your appointment is arranged. The device's FDA-cleared indication is for electrocoagulation and hemostasis; cosmetic treatment goals should be discussed separately with the clinician.
How much does RF microneedling cost in Delray Beach?
One visit is $695 for the face, $395 for the neck, $850 for face + neck, $995 for face + neck + chest, or $695 for one defined body treatment area. Optional three-visit series are listed in our pricing table and are not required.
Can I book RF microneedling immediately online?
RF appointment dates are coordinated in advance. Contact Dash to request availability and discuss the area you want evaluated.
